We’re on the Rhode(s) again!

Once upon a time in the year 2019BC (Before Covid), we had a holiday abroad booked. Many months passed by, our holiday was postponed once, twice, thrice. In desperation we moved the holiday so far into the future that we were convinced it couldn’t be cancelled again. Finally, in September 2022AC (After Covid) we made it to Rhodes!

In the meantime, we ordered a new motorhome which still hasn’t arrived, bought a second hand one and started to travel in the UK. Thus it was that we became experts at motorhoming and enjoyed many short breaks. We’ve learned the dark arts needed to be expert motorhomers: how to pack the right amount of clothing; how to store things so they don’t rattle around when on the road; the mysteries of when to top up with Adblue; who gets to empty the toilet cassette; cooking on a Cadac and so much more.

So it was that when we arrived at our hotel we were surrounded by luxuries we’d forgotten! A huge double bed that we didn’t have to make up every night; a big bathroom and shower and no toilet cassette in sight; best of all a restaurant with a huge variety of food to suit our tastes. No shopping, no cooking, all we had to do was relax and enjoy ourselves.

Well that lasted one day and then we got the urge to strike out and explore. First port of call was Rhodes town reached by local bus. We had a lovely day and enjoyed exploring the old city. Back to base for a couple of days relaxation including yoga, pilates, aqua gym, water polo and water volleyball. And off we went again, this time on the hydrofoil to Marmaris. We could see the coastline of Turkey from our bedroom window, so it was an opportunity to visit that was not to be missed.

A quaint little castle (we have been rather spoiled by Kenilworth and Warwick castles virtually on our doorstep). Lunch at a waterfront cafe and then, I wish I could type a fanfare of trumpets so please imagine one for yourself, we went to the Bazaar. Now Lois (that’s me) didn’t know quite what to expect. I had imagined a dingy, open market stall type place. Oh no, this was much more like a shopping mall. “I don’t want to buy anything, except perhaps a leather bag, so we’ll just look round” I said. Two hours later we left with a leather bag, 2 jumpers for Lois, 2 shirts for Tim oh and a rather nice leather jacket for Lois. So much for not wanting to buy anything!

After our intensive retail therapy, we needed a couple more days relaxation before setting off for Lindos. The acropolis at Lindos is lovely and well worth the climb up. A lovely lunch overlooking the harbour and happy days I found a necklace to replace one I’d lost.

More obligatory relaxation before we came home on a red eye flight. Funnily enough just a few days later we were missing going out in the motorhome and booked a trip to Wolverly campsite. I’ll tell you all about that in the next post……
