Forest of Dean & wild deer grazing

Wild Deer
Wild deer grazing on the campsite

The second outing in Freddie was to the CCC site Bracelands in Forest of Dean.  It was an emotional re-visit for me as the last time we were there it was to scatter the ashes of my late friend.  However, we settled into the site very quickly having chosen our pitch.  It was a great choice as each afternoon we had wild deer grazing on the grassland below us.

We had a lovely walk through the forest and the next day went off to Wales to visit Raglan castle, which was very enjoyable! You’ll see in the last picture Tim in the naughty chair.  Can we have one at home???  We got up nice and early the next day to visit Puzzlewood. It’s like a magical enchanted woodland which has been used in many film and TV productions.    We really enjoyed the visit and were pleased we went on a warm, dry day.  It’s definitely not the place to go on a cold, wet day.  We finished off the day with another walk through the woods and were rewarded by seeing a wild deer in the wood.  Thankfully, we didn’t catch sight of any of the wild boars.

We’ll definitely go back to this site and have planned a trip for the autumn.

After three nights away in the 275, we decided that we don’t really enjoy the faff of making up the double bed every night, so we’ve opted to try out single beds on our next trip to see if it’s any easier. It’s good that this van is reinforcing that we made the right choice with the new van we ordered (an Encore 250).  Please, please Elddis deliver it before Christmas (2022)!
